Update 0.2.1

An updated beta release of the Curse of Dimensionality (0.2.1) is now available :)

It lets you save generated worlds and play them at any time (you can also generate a couple of levels first, then pick them from the menu). It includes some sample levels in case the world generation doesn't run for you, but the game itself does. Some of these levels use outdated world generation, but I kinda like them anyway.

There are also big changes targeting optimization. World generation now takes less than a third of the time compared to the original version.

And then there are gameplay changes, including:

  • destructible crates
  • more enemy variety (side effects may include lots of cats)
  • changes to the tileset (in particular, buildings you can enter now look different)
  • tweaks to graphics and audio (including a little shader effect for the water and an idle animation for the player character)
  • background music from CC0 sources (tracks by celestialghost8 and open-sourced tracks from Monster RPG 2)
  • bugfixes, bugfixes, bugfixes

A Roadmap for the Future

My current priorities for the project are:

  • moving world generation to an external server to make the game easier to share and play
  • expanding world generation to reflect non-fantasy settings better
  • optimizing world generation even further

Basically, since the game's main feature is its world generation, I want to prioritize that, and all the technical changes necessary to improve it, over gameplay and enemy variety for a while.
